FAQs
Quick Answers for Aspiring Young Athletes and Parents
What age groups are eligible to join the OC Girls Flag Football Camp?
Eligibility: Girls ages 5–14 are welcome to attend.
Grouping: Campers are grouped by age and skill level for safe, age-appropriate instruction (typical groups: 5–7, 8–10, 11–14).
Newcomers & Advanced Players: All experience levels are welcome — we tailor drills so beginners learn fundamentals while more experienced players get advanced coaching.
Exceptions: If you have a camper near the cutoff who you’d like placed up or down an age group for skill or social reasons, contact us and we’ll review placement case-by-case.
Do participants need to have any prior experience in flag football?
No prior experience is necessary! Our camp welcomes beginners and experienced players alike.
What measures do you take to ensure safety during the camp?
Hydration policy: Campers must bring a labeled reusable water bottle. We provide water-refill stations on-site and scheduled water breaks every 15–20 minutes during high activity. Coaches actively remind and monitor water intake.
Frequent rest & shade: Built-in rest breaks occur throughout each session. We set up shaded areas and portable canopies at practice and sideline zones for cooling between drills.
Modified activity & pacing: On hot days we reduce drill intensity, increase break frequency, shorten station times, and favor skill/teaching stations over prolonged scrimmages.
Heat monitoring & thresholds: Staff monitor heat index/temperature each day. If heat-index thresholds are exceeded or conditions become unsafe, we postpone or modify activities, move to indoor/covered space if available, or cancel the session. Parents are notified immediately of any schedule changes.
Cooling measures: Supplies include ice packs, cooling towels, and shaded recovery areas. Coaches assist any camper showing signs of overheating and follow cooling protocols.
Staff training & ratios: All coaches are background-checked and CPR/First Aid certified. Staff are trained to recognize heat-related illnesses and dehydration; coach-to-player ratios are kept low to ensure close supervision.
Medical & emergency procedures: A first-aid kit and an emergency action plan are on-site each day. We will contact parents/guardians and emergency services as needed. Medical and allergy information is collected at registration.
How long does the camp last, and what are the timings?
Session length: Each camp session runs Monday through Thursday for one week (4 days).
Daily schedule: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM each day (half-day).
Arrival/departure: Drop-off begins at 8:30 AM; pickup promptly at 12:00 PM.
Locations & weeks: We offer week-long sessions in Lake Forest and Huntington Beach — check the registration page for exact dates and available weeks.
Who are the coaches at the camp?
Founders & Lead Coaches: Julian Gaitan and Angeletia White — co‑founders and lead instructors who oversee curriculum, coach development, and on-field instruction.
Local Coaches & Players: A team of local flag‑football players and experienced youth coaches join daily to run stations, lead drills, and coach scrimmages.
Qualifications & Safety: All staff are background‑checked and CPR/First Aid certified. Many coaches have competitive playing or coaching experience in flag/touch football and youth sports.
Coach-to-player focus: We maintain low coach-to-player ratios for individualized feedback and safe supervision.
